American Source Editions

American primary sources prepared from named editions, with readable typography and an explicit record of editorial changes.

The text leads. The editor follows.

Each edition identifies its source basis and records changes made to the reading text. Restoration can repair access, but it cannot rewrite testimony.

  1. Name the source edition and compare other available scans or copies.
  2. Correct clear transcription and typesetting errors without rewriting the author.
  3. Explain people, places, and editorial decisions in concise notes.
  4. Prepare print, Kindle, and narration from the same restored text.

The edition should help the reader reach the document without standing between them.
